The building itself was a former early-gothic Catherine nunnery. The hall church was completely reconstructed after 1970. It was restored and was converted intothe exhibition hall of the 3 story museum. The construction stands freely in the room.
The sea aquarium in whichover 1000 sea creatures splash about, is fascinating for every visitor.

In the large tank there are even sharks swimming about and sea turtles, seahorses, lionfishes and moray eels are all favourites among visitors. The biggest exhibit is the 16m long skeleton of a finback whale, which was found beached in Rügen in 1825. The heaviest exhibit is the leatherback turtle, which was caught in Stralsund in 1965 and weighed 450 kilograms.

An impressive combination of modern exhibitions and Middle Age architecture. During the tour you can let yourself be entertained, relax and educated. The life in and above water is so diverse!
